Objectives

William Robinson Gravetye Charity owns and maintains the Gravetye Estate, a beautiful of estate of considerable heritage and landscape value in the heart of Sussex. The estate was bought and improved by William Robinson, a significant figure in the Victorian gardening and landscape movement. On his death he left the estate, including Gravetye Manor to the state. The charity was set up to maintain the estate by the Forestry Commission. WRGC Trustee’s have now developed an ambitious new strategy to take the charity and the estate into the future.

Activities

WRGC Trustee’s have now developed an ambitious new strategy to take the charity and the estate into the future. The main pillars of this charity are:

  • To become a beautiful, sustainable estate dedicated to the understanding (practice ) of  forest resilience and research.
  • Secure, improve and explain (interpret) (the legacy of William Robinson) at the Gravetye Estate to provide public enjoyment and benefit through careful stewardship, experimentation, and research.
  • A well-maintained estate representing the values of William Robinson in demonstrating resilient woodlands, experimental planting and learning from (the power of) nature.
