Objectives

Our mission is to increase the opportunities for people with disabilities to swim in London.

To do this we support existing swimming clubs, launch new clubs in areas of need and provide a resource to find information on the services available.

Our primary focus is on the mental, physical and social benefits of community led clubs where everyone is welcome. With dedicated pool space and the support of our fantastic volunteers WeSwim provides welcoming and safe swimming sessions for swimmers with disabilities.

50% of working-age disabled people are chronically lonely. An NHS study of loneliness found that connecting with others can improve both physical and mental wellbeing. Swimming can connect people and communities in a way that is meaningful, and positive for both physical and mental wellbeing. A 2018 YouGov study found that swimming significantly reduces the symptoms of anxiety or depression in adults. We want to make sure there are plenty of opportunities to swim out there so that people can feel better.

Activities

Run volunteer led swimming sessions for disabled people, and use our digital presence to share information on swimming opportunities that exist, to try and get move people active and actively involved in their community.
