Objectives

WECare Worldwide was set up in 2014 by UK vet Dr Janey Lowes after she witnessed the plight of street dogs whilst on holiday in Sri Lanka. We have three areas of focus on the island:

1. CNVR (catch, neuter, vaccinate, release)  This addresses the overpopulation issue as well as helping to eradicate rabies on the island. It also assists with ensuring the street dog population is healthier as a whole, as each and every animal that attends a CNVR day, receives a full clinical exam and a range of preventative health care, as well as any specific treatment required for ailments or injuries.

2. Treatment of sick or injured animals in the WECare Hospital • Our fully-equipped facility in Kapugama allows us to treat animals to the highest standard and ensure they are receiving the very best care to get them back on their feet and back into their communities.

 3. Education • In order to make long-lasting impactful change, we must educate the community about the intricacies of responsible animal ownership and community dog care.

Activities

We provide the highest standard of veterinary care to the 3 million roaming dogs on the island. We have treated over 20,000 of them to date.
