Objectives

We Are Explorers supports LGBTQ+ identifying young people in the wider community of Leigh.

Our services include a weekly safe space for LGBTQ+ identifying 13-19 year olds to socialise with other young LGBTQ+ young people. We also intend to start a board for Young Trustees so that young people at the group can have their voices heard at a constitutional level. This is important to us because we believe a youth organisation cannot be successful unless it listens to and involves young people themselves in the decision-making process.

Our impact means that we can provide extra-curricular activities to complement and enrich the local educational authority’s curriculum. We provide local businesses with relevant training, provide LGBTQ+ events to the wider community and link with schools to improve their LGBTQ+ offering.

Most importantly, we aim to improve community cohesion between LGBTQ+ young people and the local community in Leigh and the surrounding areas through access to local activities, services and opportunities.

We aim to fulfil all of our young peoples' ambitions whenever possible and our ethos is that although individually we may be part of a minority, by working to build community cohesion, we can become the majority.
