Objectives

Award-winning WAVE (We're All Valued Equally) for Change is a small, hardworking charity with big ambitions. We are people with and without learning disabilities working together to create more genuinely inclusive places in the heart of communities across the UK, where mixed ability friendships have a chance to blossom.  Our approach is to do things "with not for" each other.

Research shows that up to 80% of people are interested in joining in with mixed ability social or worship activities, but only 12% do so regularly.  Our activities help to narrow that gap - reducing barriers to inclusion and increasing acceptance of difference.

Activities

WAVE connects, encourages and supports those who want to start vibrant mixed-ability social or worship groups in their communities. To help these 'WAVEmakers' get started we provide a customized toolkit - ‘WAVE in a Box’ – resources and guidance on creating inclusive community spaces, based on over a decade of experience.

Through talks, articles, exhibitions and Taster events WAVE for Change raises awareness of the need for equal valuing of individuals of all abilities, and the benefits of mixed-ability relationships - paving the way for wider community engagement in inclusive initiatives.
