Objectives

Golden Oldies is a pioneering organisation which was set up in 1991 by members of the ‘SS Windrush generation’ of post war Caribbean migrants to the United Kingdom. Its aim being to promote inclusion, friendship, independence and healthy living experiences for its members and supporters as they faced the daunting challenges of growing older here in the United Kingdom. Though its focus is on the BAME community, all comers are welcomed.

Trustees and members of the organisation have had extensive experiences of working with a range of agencies and community organisations to deliver services and helping to make a positive difference in the lives of older people, having done so for the past 24 years.

Through the activities and services available, members and participants benefit from the following outcomes:

  • Increased social activity
  • Improved social interaction
  • Improved physical health - through participation in dance and other physical activity
  • Improved mental health through engaging in a project that offers involvement
  • Improved mobility for some members due to moving around and going on outings

Feedback shows that our services are much appreciated by members, and local care agencies.
