Objectives

About the Walthamstow Toy Library and Play Centre Walthamstow Toy Library and Play Centre is an educational charity which has been running  in the local community for over 40 years. 

The Toy Library’s mission is to provide a safe and stimulating place for young children and their parents and carers to play, learn and interact. 

Seven aims underpin this mission. These are to: 

 

  • Support children aged under five to learn and develop and to prepare for nursery education; 
  • Promote bonding and attachment between children and their parents or carers; 
  • Reduce isolation and help parents to develop supportive social networks; 
  • Promote the health and well-being of children and families; 
  • Enable access to our services from all sections of our local community particularly those on a low income; 
  • Provide volunteering opportunities to local students and residents; and 
  • Represent the aims and interests of our members

Activities

To meet our objectives the Toy Library has a variety of projects. These include:

  • Free breastfeeding support groups
  • Free information talks on issues such as gentle sleep and nutrition
  • Reduced fees for families on low incomes
  • Facilitated play sessions for under 18months
  • A group specifically for twins and their carers
  • Facilitated play sessions for under 5’s
