Voices Unique help adults who specifically experience hearing voices, but not exclusively, also seeing visions or other unusual perceptions.
We help them by providing a space in which members feel safe to share our experiences and support each other. It will be an opportunity to make sense of our experiences and find creative ways of coping with them.
Our help matters because we aid in easing suffering, inform and educate and provide a support network.
We will hold regular monthly group sessions in a privately hired room at local library which include peer support, guest speakers and use the ‘From Victim to Victor Working with Voices Workbook 2’ by Ron Coleman and Maastricht Interview for voice hearers. We work within the framework of Intervoice - The International Heaing Voices Network and that of facilitation training from Voice Collective (young people's hearing voices group as part of MIND in Camden).
Steering group recruitment is happening now, first, to help in the set-up of the group. The steering group will support this group, including developing areas of safeguarding, finances and fundraising, information and agency sharing and networking. Meetings will take place monthly at Community First Fareham, 163 West Street, FAREHAM, Hampshire, PO16 0EF. Steering group members will have a guest speaker come to talk about Voice Collective groups, organisation management and safeguarding (local LADO).
We follow a procedure for referrals; first contact volunteer application form, reference requests and skills & interests forms, policies & procedures are emailed prior to- and signed for at induction, DBS checks are only required for those wishing to attend group sessions *please note this is not covered by Voices Unique.
A Facebook private group will be created for the hearing voices group and another for the steering group to enable a growing support network and support being offered to each other outside of the meeting room.
We hope that all this will aid to easing suffering of those afflicted and to build strong local community connections of support.
