Voice Magazine supports young people to develop their creativity, skills and confidence by taking part in the arts and media. The magazine creates opportunities for young people to explore the arts world and build media skills and creative portfolios, and we focus on young people from less advantaged backgrounds who may lack contacts and resources.
We aim to help create a more representative cultural sector through our training, mentoring and work experience programme. 70% of our past trainees are now working in the cultural sector, including at major media outlets like Sky and The Economist.
We champion youth voice and co-production in all our work, and we run training in these areas for other organisations.
Voice is now the public face of the charity Upstart Projects.
Activities
Voice Magazine (www.voicemag.uk) is an online arts and culture platform for young people aged 16+. It's a place to share creative work and opinions with peers, and develop skills and experience across the arts and media.
Voice runs a nation-wide Voice Reviewers network which trains and supports young people to review the arts and a Voice Contributor training programme which provides training and work experience to young people in the Midlands interested in a creative or media career.
The magazine also provides a rich range of resources including How-to? practical tips and Want my job? careers info.
Voice's Creative Pathways programme supports young people in disadvantaged communities to explore the arts at local level and find out about creative careers. They can choose to progress to work experience or training projects on the magazine.
Youth Voice Training (www.youthvoicetraining.uk) is our programme for organisations, offering courses and support to develop youth participation, including training for both professionals and young people.
