The University of Plymouth Students’ Union (UPSU) is a student-led registered charity and a limited company. We are a not-for-profit, values led organisation which exists to represent the interests of the 18,000 students studying with the University of Plymouth and to support their wider student experience through extra-curricular activities.
Everything we do is driven by students and our strategic plan is the result of research into what students think about us and what they would like us to do to help improve their student experience. UPSU is at the heart of student life which encompasses representation, welfare, clubs and societies, volunteering and training, along with our commercial activities.
As a charity, we aim to ensure that all our members get the most out of their student experience at the University of Plymouth, whatever their interests or aspirations. We support students in numerous ways, such as facilitating a range of opportunities for extracurricular activities including sports and societies and volunteering opportunities, as well as engaging with campaigns, groups, academic representation, and running a confidential, free advice service which advises on financial, academic, housing and wellbeing concerns. We also run a shop, daytime/evening bar serving coffee, food and alcohol, a nightclub venue and gym/fitness facilities on campus. In order to run these services and activities, we employ just over 50 career staff and over 200 student staff.
