Objectives

This is a new branch belong to the United Nations Association - UK. UNA-UK the UK's leading source of independent analysis on the UN, and a UK-wide grassroots movement.

UNA-UK believes that a strong, credible and effective UN is essential if we are to build a safer, fairer and more sustainable world. We advocate strong government support for the UN and demonstrate why the UN matters to people everywhere.

UNA-UK derives great strength from its members and supporters, and UK-wide network of local, school and university branches. Together, they form a critical mass of support for the UN in the UK and beyond.

UNA-UK is a charitable company limited by guarantee (no.1146016). UNA-UK is not part of the UN.

Activities

The Coventry Branch is currently creating its first programme, which will run in 2016.

We will pursue our mission, holding public events in Coventry which will:

  • Connect people to the work and values of the UN
  • Influence decision-makers and opinion-shapers to support UN goals
  • Explain how the UN works and what it can realistically achieve
  • Stimulate debate and action on how to make the UN more effective
  • Equip our members and supporters to further all of these aims

UNA Coventry will connect people to the work and values of the United Nations by organising a diverse range of grass-roots activities. Ranging from speaker and fundraising events to film screenings and coffee mornings. It will also encourage debate among its members as well as dialogue with UN officials, thus promoting awareness of political issues faced by societies today and influencing decision-makers within the UN. This process will encourage people to understand what realistic targets are and will potentially contribute to decisions of daily politics making them more effective.
