Objectives

Umbrella supports families living in Derby City and Derbyshire providing a range of exciting activities. Most services in Derbyshire are provided in Amber Valley, Erewash, Derby City, South Derbyshire and South Derbyshire Dales.

Anyone can refer a child or young person to Umbrella including families, social workers, teachers and youth workers.

We support children and young people aged 5 to 30 with any special need, including physical, sensory, learning & behavioural disabilities and additional needs. We are able to support a child or young person no matter what their disability as our services are person centred to meet individual needs.

Activities

Children living in Derby City

Umbrella receives funding from Derby City Council to provide fun activities to children aged 5-18 years. Umbrella can offer one to one support in the home/community as well as fun and exciting social groups including weekend day trips and school holiday play schemes

One to one

Each child is appointed a worker to support them at home or in the community. The activities are all child led and pre-agreed with the family before each session.

Skills

We work closely with the family to encourage the children to develop independent skills and continue with developing confidence. We also teach skills such as how to stay safe and encourage healthy options through cooking. But most of all we aim to have fun!

Children living in Derbyshire County

Umbrella is able to offer services for 5 – 25 year olds living within Derbyshire County who have been granted a budget or support hours through the core assessment process with Derbyshire County Council.

Positive Activities

For 11-25 year olds living in Amber Valley, Erewash, South Derbyshire and South Derbyshire Dales.  We can offer one to one support for 2-6 hours both out in the community, in the home and on our specialist play schemes, weekend trips and clubs.  Support is very flexible and activities are planned to meet children’s individual needs.  Activities can vary from Brownies to trampoline classes, swimming lessons, bowling or shopping trips to name but a few.

Group Activities

We can offer small group support to 5-25 year olds living in South Derbyshire and the South Dales.  Our well trained staff run specialist play schemes every holiday, day trips at the weekend and Saturday clubs.  We take the young people out into the community
including parks, farms, swimming and ice skating.  Clubs can help develop young people’s social skills, self confidence and independence.

Support Planning and Brokerage

Umbrella can offer support planning and brokerage to families residing in the whole of Derbyshire County (Amber Valley, Erewash, Bolsover, North East Derbyshire & Chesterfield, High Peak, North Dales, South Derbyshire and South Dales).

Umbrella can work directly with families to design a support plan and also provide a creative, impartial and effective brokerage service. We will assign an experienced key worker to help them make informed choices about their support needs and meet identified outcomes within budget.  Umbrella will work collaboratively with health professionals, local statutory and voluntary sector agencies to help negotiate and signpost families to other information and support.
