Objectives

The UK Youth Climate Coalition (UKYCC) is a grassroots organisation run by young people, for young people. As a youth-led, non-hierarchical and volunteer-led NGO, our membership encompasses a diverse group of 18-29 year olds from across the UK who harness collective action to effect change at a local, national and international level. Our flat structure allows our members to take equal ownership of driving internal changes, strategy development, and setting the direction of our campaigning. Membership provides a safe space for young people to develop their confidence, build their networks, and deepen their knowledge, skills, and experience of climate justice movement building. UKYCC exists to give a platform for UK youth to connect and interact with others from throughout the UK, provide opportunities to enhance and develop a deeper connection with nature and enables youth to become the next generation of young climate leaders.

Our work is guided by a clear vision and mission:

Vision

“A just, sustainable world in which current and future generations enjoy and protect a healthy environment.”

Mission

“To mobilise and empower young people to take positive action for global climate justice, and to bring about youth-centred transformational change and impact, we look to challenge and address the systemic causes of climate and social injustice.”

Activities

We are volunteer run, consensus driven, non-hierarchy and non-profit in our nature, that means that each member has an equal part to play in the functioning of UKYCC. We are structured into several working groups, and our members can be part of as many or as few working groups as they would like. To ensure that these working groups don't disintegrate into dust, each working group has a coordinator that lasts for a maximum of one year. They have no decision-making power over the team, instead we work together through weekly Skype calls and four annual UKYCC wide weekends to shape our futures.

We are currently running several campaigns, with different local, national and international focuses. UKYCC is constantly changing and evolving. Therefore we often have some pop-up working groups on the go for certain campaigns or events.
