Objectives

Our mission is to help those living with severe physical disabilities get the best mobility they can to take an active role in their family, community and society. We encourage people to keep their aspirations high and achieve the lifestyle they would like, despite needing to do it on wheels. Good mobility equipment can make the difference between sitting at home on benefits or getting a fulfilling paid job. For small children, it can be the key to developing those expectations of life that enable someone to participate fully in mainstream education and society for the rest of their life. The psychological benefits are immeasurable.

We do this by providing grants towards the purchase of the best equipment to give them the most versatile and effective powered mobility for their everyday lives. We work with other charities to part-fund if necessary, and give advice to our beneficiaries about other funds available to them.

Up to the end of of our 20-21 financial year, we had helped 79 individuals with grants towards the purchase of equipment worth over £1million. During the pandemic we focussed on grants for maintenance of existing equipment, but are beginning to expand our fundraising operations again.

Activities

We raise funds and give individual grants to enable disabled people of all ages (children and adults) to buy more specialist and customised powered mobility than the NHS provides, to improve their access to the non-disabled environment. We also give grants for ongoing maintenance of such equipment, whether or not we supported it’s purchase.
