Objectives

Trusts for African Schools is a small charity established in 2006 to support poor government schools in remote arid areas of Kenya.  We aim to fund infrastructure, learning resources, educational trips etc - whatever the school's priorities are. We stay with a school for 5 or 6 years and then move on to other schools.  We currently support 7 schools - 2 secondary and 5 primary, all around Kora National Park in the Tana River region.

Our support enables the schools to improve the quality of their teaching and thus the students' life chances.

Activities

We raise funds mainly in the UK.

Schools identify their priorities, get tenders and quotes and send these to us in UK. They are assisted in this task by our 'man on the ground' who is jointly  employed by TAS and the Kenya Wildlife Service. Trustees in UK consider the applicatons and if agreed the funds are sent out to our account in Nairobi from where they are transferred direct to contractors and suppliers.  No cash is used and bank signatories are people we know and trust.  We are confident our financial controls are in good order.
