As a museum, we preserve objects for today's and future generations to enjoy and learn about.
We are particularly keen to preserve 70s and 80s culture, but mainly the culture of British girlhood. We believe that the lives of girls (especially working class women and girls) have been neglected by the heritage sector and we want to proactively address this gap with our museum. We also want to attract young people to our museum and people who wouldn't normally engage with heritage.
Our beneficiaries are predominately the British public, and, being based in Scotland, the Scottish public, but hope to encourage anyone with an interest in modern British culture to engage with our collection, including an international audience eventually, through digital means.
We will promote our collection online, in temporary exhibition tours and in a permanent collection, open to the public.
We shall soon open a permanent museum and have a website and social media presence. We also have a huge collection of girls' comics to display the artwork from and aim to preserve these in an archive, with other ephemera. To support our primary museum purpose, we will have a children's play area, vegan cafe and gift shop. We will display and sell art and crafts and give exhibition space to local artists. We will actively promote our jobs to people with additional support needs and/or disabilities and those from deprived areas. We will re-use and recycle as many materials as we can.
