Objectives

We work with doctors, surgeons, nurses and other healthcare professionals involved with the care of patients with End-Stage Renal Failure in low- and middle-income countries. We provide training and assistance in living-donor kidney transplants, where a living relative can donate one of their kidneys to save the life of their loved one who suffers with kidney failure. We work with each partner hospital over a number of years to ensure that sustainability is reached; so that the local team is able to perform this transformative surgery unassisted.

Activities

We provide bespoke support tailored to meet the specific needs of each centre, until they reach a point of sustainability. Training is delivered in the form of hands on surgical assistance (in situ), delivering lectures and training seminars in the hospitals, providing on-going long term support and assistance in developing the infrastructure needed to coordinate a transplant programme, long-distance online learning in the form of videos, presentations, podcasts and online seminars and the development of written materials as requested. We also arrange placements in the UK for healthcare professionals, so that they can gain experience through working in busy transplant units.
