Transition Town Chichester is a member of the international Transition Towns movement. We organise practical activities at local level to promote sustainable living and develop community resilience to climate change. We aim to:

- Raise awareness of environmental issues through ongoing practical projects, green events and media

- Build community resilience through shared projects, e.g. community gardens and orchards, a weekly community café, monthly Repair Cafés, Swap Shops

- Promote inclusivity and alleviate loneliness by working with elderly people who are socially isolated, refugees/asylum seekers, people with learning/physical disabilities or mental health issues, young people. 


To meet our objectives, Transition Town Chichester hosts a wide range of projects.

- Raising awareness of environmental issues through public events such as Green Fairs, conferences and films in order to promote resilience and adaptation to climate change in our local area

- Developing sustainable community by

  • Managing organic community gardens and orchards, promoting 'grow your own'. making use of disused land and fostering biodiversity
  • Running regular Repair Cafés and Swap Shops to reduce waste and promote re-use and recycling
  • Holding a weekly Earth Café to raise awareness of green issues and build community
  • Integrating refugees and asylum seekers by sharing cultures and cooking and eating together twice a month

- Providing weekly therapeutic gardening sessions open to all to foster well-being in troubled times.

- Networking with other groups and institutions in Chichester and the surrounding area to develop an integrated response to climate change
