We are a small museum based in south Wales with the core purpose of preserving the heritage of the county of Torfaen. Through our collections and archives, we aim to support local communities to engage with their heritage and culture, offering community workshops and events, access to research opportunities, learning and much more. We hope to engage with people from all backgrounds from across the county and further afield in order to improve lives through learning, creativity and the generation of a sense of belonging.
Our primary purpose is to reflect the history and cultures of Torfaen to local residents and visitors from further afield. However, we also hold a library and archive of local materials and a thriving art gallery with a regular turn-over of exhibitions. Alongside our physical assets, we run regular events and workshops from craft markets, family craft and ghost tours to sessions in Japanese brush art and local history talks. We offer formal learning sessions to school groups and work with partner organisations to host community groups including a dementia support group and the local authority play services which visit every week. We are establishing a number of strong volunteer opportunities and offer training in object care and handling. There's always plenty going on at the Museum with new ideas and events being developed every week.
