Objectives

Time To Change West Cumbria is a Community Interest Company based in West Cumbria. It has two
projects offering services for people in the local community:

Calderwood House opened in October 2015 in Egremont, an 8 bed homeless hostel for ex-service men
and other local people in our community.

Women Out West opened in June 2019 in Whitehaven, a project that offers a range of services for
disadvantaged women in our community.

Activities

Calderwood House provides 24 hour emergency accommodation for people based in West Cumbria. We recognise the rise in homelessness in West Cumbria particularly amongst our armed forces personnel and therefore aim to prioritise British service Personnel experiencing difficulties re-intergrading into civilian life.

There is a 6 month maximum stay and residents are responsible for cooking, cleaning, and managing the project with support from staff and volunteers. The Project is completely 'dry' and staff are on site 24/7. Referrals are for people from West Cumbria (local connection only). We provide paid and unpaid employment opportunities through our various social enterprise schemes as well as opportunities to develop essential life skills to enable reentry to employment and our local community.

At Women Out West, our vision is that every West Cumbrian woman has the support, tools and opportunities they need to thrive and achieve their dreams. Our mission is to provide services designed by West Cumbrian women for West Cumbrian women to empower all women to reach their full potential. We offer support to clients online and via email / phone, and provide emergency face to face support. Our aims are to:

  • Provide a safe space for women in West Cumbria.
  • Provide support to women so that they can rebuild and move on with their lives.
  • Reduce incidents of domestic violence.
  • Reduce the number of women seeking support for addiction.
  • Increase confidence, self-esteem, and aspirations.
  • Reduce isolation.
  • Reduce female offending.
  • Support more women into training and employment.
  • Upskill vulnerable women with educational activities: Maths, English and other courses as needed.
