Objectives

Tic+ supports young people aged 9-21 and their families though counselling and support. We're passionate about giving every young person someone to talk to and making getting help as easy as possible. That's why we put children at the centre of what we do- you don't need a referral to get help, we offer help at a place close to you or via a number of online methods and it's all completely free, because cost should never be a barrier to getting the help you need. Last year we helped nearly 3,500 young people through our counselling services. This year we hope to help even more and have added our new anonymous drop in service tic+chat to our portfolio! We also support parents through Parent Support Groups, Family Counselling and our confidential Parent Support Line. We are a fast paced, busy, friendly charity who look for ways to improve, innovate and develop all the time !

TIC+ is a Christian-led charity that is not affiliated to any particular denomination, church or group. We provide services to anyone of any faith (or none), and we employ staff from any faith (or none).

As an organisation, we believe that the Christian faith provides the foundation and motivation for the work of the charity and is the reason why we do what we do. Our mission to improve, preserve and promote good mental health and well-being
amongst children, young people and families is borne from Jesus’ words; “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

The Christian faith is never made explicit in any of the services we provide. An outworking of our Christian ethos means that we expect all representatives of the charity to treat everyone equally, with care and respect regardless of their race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, ethnic background, beliefs, status, ability or class. It is GOR that our trustees share this faith and vision

Activities

We deliver counselling though a variety of methods to try to ensure that young people have a genuine choice as to how they are able to access help. Often at a time when it feels as though so much in their life may be spinning out of control, it is important that they have a sense of agency.

We offer face to face counselling (currently via video, normally at a location convenient to the young person), phone and text chat scheduled sessions as well as our new drop -in service , allowing young people to access instant support.

We also offer support to parents, recognising that parents can feel 'lost' and 'abandoned' when it comes to helping a young person experiencing mental health issues or just having a difficult time. We are able to offer this through out Parent Support Line , Parent Support Groups and also Family Counselling which is particularly helpful where siblings are affected by what may be going on.

TIC+ only works with qualified staff, all of whom are employed by TIC+ and work to our policies; we recognise that working with young people is very different to work with adults and to support this learning , TIC+ partnered with LRS Training to develop a specialist Children & Young People's course, for post qualifying counsellors. This course is now accredited to Level 5 and delivered by TIC+ to help develop skills more widely as well as build a sustainable work force.
