The Thyroid Trust is a patient led charity that works to make things better for people affected by thyroid disease. Thyroid disorders are common and usually relatively easy to treat. However, they can be highly debilitating and quality of care can be very inconsistent, so that some patients spend years either undiagnosed or poorly managed, with significant impacts on every aspect of their life. We are determined that thyroid patients are better heard and better cared for and public resources are directed appropriately to build understanding and improve treatment. We are committed to help improve access to support and information, standards of care and levels of understanding for all thyroid conditions.

We run regular information and support events in Central London, promote reliable, high quality, information sources at these events and online, attend professional events, produce and share films so that those who can’t access our physical events can still access the content. We work closely with our partners to be a strong voice for thyroid patients. We took a lead role in producing a major report for the Department of Health and Social Care in 2018 which resulted in NHS England revising prescribing guidance for a specialists treatment for hypothyroidism in 2019.  We are stakeholders in the new NICE guideline for thyroid disease assessment and management and will be listed as an approved patient information organisation on the new guideline.
