ThePromise have been working to improve the lives of disabled children and their families in Russia for over 15 years. Through the powerful, internationally recognised early education system of Portage we have helped hundreds of children develop, learn and gain skills needed to live a happier and more independent life.
Working with the children, their families, local communities, professionals and institutions we help to breakdown the stigma of disability and provide practical ways to support the children's development. This is achieved by training people in the Portage Model, providing the materials and on-going support they need to deliver an effective Portage service to the children and families in their community. All taining, support and professional advice is provided free of charge and Portage is delivered free to families.
Thanks to the powerful gift of Portage we have seen children learn to walk, talk, laugh and even attend school, when previously their parents have been told none of this would be possible.
Working closely with our Russian partners we organise and deliver a number of Portage workshops each year, training more Portage Workers from local communities and supporting them to set up and run their own Portage teams. We facilitate professional volunteers from the UK to work with the Portage teams, sharing their skills and expertise and enabling the teams to develop the skills needed to support the children and families they are working with.
A key priority over the past few years has been to grow a team of Russian Portage trainers to ensure we can keep up with the growing demand for Portage Workshops. In conjunction with our UK and Russian colleagues we have developed a Train the Trainer Workshop which we deliver to experienced and dedicated Russian Portage Workers.
