Theatre Centre exists to make work with and for young people. We commission new writing from exciting contemporary writers and artists, touring this work into schools and theatres across the UK. We run programmes to bring young people, artists and practitioners together to develop skills, explore big ideas and to make work. Supporting young people as creatives, active citizens and leaders.
Our Vision is that young people are empowered through theatre to find and use their voices and ideas to make change in their lives and in the world around them. Through opportunities for creative expression, they develop their potential as active citizens and leaders in the community and in society.
We are an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, meaning we receive annual funding from Arts Council to support us to make our work. We also generate income through Box Office and fees, through entrepreneurial activity, through corporate support and fundraising from trusts, foundations and individual donors.
Theatre Centre is a Learning Organisation and has an embedded culture of nurturing everyone involved in or touched by the work. Our work is all about amplifying voices, developing agency, centring the experiences of young people, and telling stories that are relevant, authentic and relatable. We draw all the strands of our practice together into Future Makers.
Future Makers works to make democratic brave creative spaces where everyone in the room is valued for what they bring. It ensures young people have an equal stake in the development of Theatre Centre’s work, shaping and co-curating their own experience and that of Future Makers to come.
