Tendring Community Transport was set up to provide transport services for the local community. This includes providing transport to people who are unable or find it difficult to access conventional transport and providing volunteering opportunities to the community. We achieve this by providing people who are at the margins of society with services which will allow them to access local amenities, social activities that they would otherwise be unable to access this enables them to live independently for longer in their own homes, helps to prevent rural and social isolation. Providing such services allows volunteers to give something back to their community, helping others in their day to day lives, this promotes community integration as volunteers and service users build community spirit.
The volunteers Tendring Community Transport recruit are made up of unemployed, retired, professional people; they receive training to a nationally recognised standard.
Dial-a-Ride – Door-to-door wheelchair accessible transport for people who are unable or find it difficult to access conventional transport, the service enables Tendrings’ most vulnerable, elderly, frail, rurally and socially isolated residents to access shops, GP surgeries, leisure and social activities, lunch clubs.
