Objectives

Our mission is to enable many more British young people to benefit from well-run residential Summer Camps in the UK. Other countries regard Summer Camps as a vital part of their national provision for children, and yet in the UK, only 2% of children access a residential summer camp. In addition to our practical work on summer camps, we campaign government to facilitate more valuable opportunities for children to live for a week with others from around the country and enjoy all the benefits that a well-run summer camp can bring.

Activities

We run residential training courses for young leaders, who will then go on to spend a week in the summer working on a summer camp. The course is fully-residential for 7 days, a really rich experience, full of learning & new experiences.

For many volunteer leaders the experience can be life-changing. It offers enormous benefits - interpersonal, organisational and management skills, the ability to work successfully with people from a variety of backgrounds and a positive attitude to life in general. Many former volunteer leaders who have moved on to hold senior job roles in later life often pay tribute to what they gained from being given such thorough training and real responsibility at a young age, whilst working on residential summer camps. Working on a summer camp also provides a great addition to Personal Statements and CVs. Additionally, the training week can also count as a residential course for the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.
