Objectives

Our vision is of Gloucester as a city of vibrant culture for all. A city where our fast growing, diverse audiences can see nationally recognised work on their doorstep. A city where artists can live and make work.

We create events that people never imagined would/could happen in Gloucester, transforming their expectations of their city. We tell people’s stories through performance and production.

We ensure that our work is accessible and affordable and introduce people to the arts, acting as a gateway for new cultural experiences.

Strike A Light are a small, relatively new charity but we have grown and achieved a lot in a short space of time. We are a small, committed team working with local communities and alongside national organisations such as Battersea Arts Centre, The National Theatre and The Roundhouse. We are committed to diversity, meaning that our board of trustees, workforce, artists and audiences reflect the cultural and social diversity of Gloucester.

Activities

We have three strands of work: programming, producing and participation. Our work is diverse, non-venue based, accessible and gives a platform and voice to emerging artists and young people.

We programme and produce 2 contemporary theatre and dance performance festivals a year plus year round programming. This includes nationally touring shows, performances from local artists and a Christmas show for young children.

We offer year round support to theatre makers and other artists to create and tour new shows. We deliver a year round arts participation programme, Gloucester Rising, for Children and Young People to learn from and perform alongside professional artists and attend workshops in beat boxing and dance.
