Objectives

Stokenchurch Dog Rescue (SDR) is an independent charity that has been re-homing stray and unwanted dogs for over 60 years. SDR’s objectives are to rescue, board and place stray and unwanted dogs in good homes as well as to care and protect dogs in need of attention by reason of sickness, maltreatment, neglect, and poor circumstances in the Wycombe district and surrounding areas. This provides benefit to the public by re-homing dogs that they are no longer able to keep for a variety of reasons and finding them suitable homes. It also ensures that abandoned dogs will not cause any incidents/injuries to the public or themselves.

Activities

Stokenchurch Dog Rescue covers a 50-mile re-homing radius because we undertake home checks for potential adoptions. Occasionally, we will go beyond this for welfare and cruelty cases or to support rescues within the network of the Association of Cats and Dogs Homes. SDR’s commitment is to find the right home. We never destroy a healthy dog; believing there is a kind, loving and permanent home for every dog. We also welcome back, with no time limit, any past resident if its owner’s change their mind or experience a change in circumstances. We promote animal welfare and help to educate the local community to adopt a responsible attitude toward dogs. We promote neutering and micro-chipping of all dogs.

Our key role is to rescue and re home unwanted dogs and in so doing SDR provides a key community service that is supported and valued by people, be they new adoptees who will know the pleasure of owning a loyal pet or the many supporters. We have an active volunteer support group that we value greatly. These are people from the community and outlying districts that help us in so many ways, for example by dog walking, socialising dogs, fostering, cleaning kennels, gardening, helping in reception. Our volunteers are our loyal and committed lifeblood and we are delighted, in turn, to be a source of friendship, companionship, education, and the vital confidence booster that comes with the chance to learn new skills, as well as the potential for health, and fitness from being physically and mentally active, outdoors and around animals.
