Start Young UK collaborates closely with schools and other educational settings to support children aged 5 to 18 from socio economic deprived backgrounds. The scheme takes a 360-degree approach in encouraging children to focus on their education. Whilst providing the tools to keep children engaged and away from gang culture or other activities that may divert them from their true potential.
Young People from such backgrounds continue to face substantial barriers to integrate in terms of access to social life and employment. In addition a lot of young people are not academically prepared , due to personal situations. The charity provides platforms for young people to gain the skills and support they need to thrive in life.
The charity founder has recently been awarded an MBE for the work carried out within the community.
The Charity provides mentorship through our matched buddy scheme, which allows children to receive support along their academic journey. The duration of the buddy ship is from when the child starts the scheme until school leaving age. The buddy support is via letter writing, and many children on the scheme have formed wonderful relationships with their buddies through this process. The scheme enrols the children into a community club that teaches life skills, values, and stewardship within the community, while also emphasising the importance of respect and building positive relationships. All children are provided with a full school uniform and P.E kit every year ensuring they feel included.
The charity provides additional support such as , our yearly Christmas gifting where families will benefit from food hampers, personal care packages, winter necessities , picnics and outings throughout the year.
