Objectives

To support children, young adults up to 25 years, and families across the Wakefield District, affected by the death of someone important to them -  parent, carer, friend, sister, stepbrother, grandparent………………………addressing their needs in ways that are Compassionate, Comprehensive, and Accessible

For Children, Young People, Adults and Communities have a positive sense of identity, strong relationships, and are able to identify, manage and express, their feelings and needs in relation to Loss and Bereavement

Activities

At Star we offer a wide range of opportunities including group and 1-2-1 bereavement support

Our group support gives the opportunity to meet other children and young people who have experienced loss - they take place in a variety of settings  - outdoors in nature, with animals, using arts and games to explore feelings, manage grief,  create good memories and have FUN

Star’s Delivery

Preventive, Strengths-Based Service, that helps children and young people build resilience and the coping skills they need to adjust to their loss and handle future challenges

Evaluation and Research, to continuously improve the effectiveness of our service

Recognising grieving children, young people and families as the Experts

Training and Education

Supporting family, friends and communities so they too are more resilient and better able to respond to loss and bereavement
