STAND’s purposes are to promote the welfare of people with varying stages of dementia, as well as their carers/supporters. We operate through a model of peer support and raise awareness of
Families living with dementia in Fife engage with STAND (Striving Towards A New Day) primarily through dementia-friendly meeting centre spaces (DFMCS) which the charity continues to develop across Fife. The meeting centres give people in the early to moderate stages of dementia an opportunity to meet locally, make new friends and support each other. The meeting centres provide information and guidance about how to live well, with an emphasis on peer support, and offer a multitude of therapeutic activities, often based around music and creative arts.
There is a monthly group for people who are living with a diagnosis of younger-onset dementia and the other DFMCS meet weekly throughout Fife.
Through talking to groups in the community, including schools our trustees and members spread the word about living well with dementia and challenge the myths and stereotypes surrounding the neurological condition. Our members also speak to strategy groups at local and national levels to ensure the voices of people living with dementia are heard.
The innovative, "A Good Life with Dementia Course" was co-created by STAND members and is delivered to those newly diagnosed with dementia by them.
