Objectives

Stagetext is a registered charity which provides captioning and live subtitling services to theatres and other arts venues to make their activities accessible to people who are d/Deaf, deafened or hard of hearing.

Stagetext works with museums, galleries and other cultural venues to make their talks and lectures accessible through live subtitles, also known as speech-to-text transcription (STT). Stagetext can now subtitle your online/digital content for you, including trailers, live streams and recorded events.

Activities

Along with the captioning and subtitling we do on a daily basis we also hold fundraising events, run outreach programmes, and produce awareness raising projects.

Theatre captions are similar to television subtitles and give people who are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing access to live performance. The actors’ words appear on an LED caption unit (or units), placed next to the stage or in the set, at the same time as they are spoken or sung.

Unlike opera surtitles for hearing audiences, captions include additional information such as speaker names, sound effects and offstage noises.
