Objectives

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, exists to relieve need, suffering and distress amongst the Armed Forces, veterans and their families in order to support their independence and dignity.  Eligibility is based on one day's service in the regular or reserve forces.  Our network of volunteer caseworkers, visitors and supporters help to provide practical, emotional and access to financial support tailored to the individual needs of those we help.  We recognise the contribution that our service personnel have made in service to the nation.  Our pledge to the Armed Forces community is our undertaking to continue to provide lifelong support to those who are serving our nation, those who have previously served and their families.

Activities

The primary task of a Branch/Division involves casework with veterans, their families, including widows and widowers through almonising funds to help meet a need, along with advising and helping clients to help themselves. Our volunteers are renowned for disbursing the benevolence of service benevolent funds and of many other occupational charities. Caseworkers are trained to identify appropriate sources of assistance, both financial and non-financial.
