Objectives

Sporting Equals is an innovative outcomes-led sector leader for the UK increasing ethnic diversity in sport/physical activity. Our aims:

  1. Raise awareness and understanding of the needs of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic(BAME) communities within the sport and health sectors
  2. Empower BAME individuals and communities to play a full role in improving provision and changing negative attitudes and stereotypes
  3. Develop innovative strategies and programmes in collaboration with key stakeholder agencies
  4. Be a learning organisation committed to sharing best practiceĀ 

Activities

We prioritise five areas:

1. Increasing activity among inactive BAME communities

2. Instilling positive attitudes about sport/physical activity among BAME young people and their families

3. Increasing community cohesion through sport/physical activity.

4. Tackling BAME underrepresentation in coaching, volunteering, employment, governance in sport

5. Building partnerships to increase understanding and capability within the sport and physical activity sectors to enable them to successfully engage with BAME communities
