Spires is an award-winning charity that has been working with homeless and disadvantaged people in Streatham, South London, since 1990. Working with some of the most isolated and vulnerable in our society, we support over 900 men and women every year.
Our vision and aim is to be the best support that we can in helping people move from lives of distress, isolation and insecurity to a future of greater stability and hope. The majority of our clients are homeless or have insecure accommodation, with many also facing complex issues such as long-term unemployment, problems with poor mental and physical health, addiction and substance abuse, or they may even be imprisoned by sex work.
Spires day centre is open five days a week throughout the year. With the help of our dedicated volunteer team, we provide a range of services for rough sleepers every week day, along with our twice-weekly women-only sessions. We use a client-centrered approach to deal with each person’s immediate and longer term needs. We provide clothes, food, and showers as well as providing a key worker to each person to support them with access to basic care and mental health services, as well as support with housing, tenancies and benefits.
Alongside our two women-only sessions every week, our Spires Streetlink service, also offers 4 nightly outreach sessions every week to support those women involved in street-based sex work.
The Spires Adult Learning centre offers a range of classes (also Monday to Friday). Free to our clients, our timetable is specially created to ensure our classes are easily accessible and offer our clients the opportunity to acquire the skills that will enable them to progress further with either more training or volunteering and employment opportunities.
