Spencer Lynx reduces barriers to participation in sport for under-served children from inner city state primary schools, addressing inequalities in activity across our community. Children from Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and/or low socio-economic backgrounds are prioritised, recognising that these groups generally have lower physical activity levels. We aim to instil a sporting habit from an early age, by introducing children to regular weekly exercise in the form of a free hockey club on a Sunday, and equipping them with the social skills to continue to be active in other environments, and their families the confidence to support them.
We are a registered charity, run by 5 Trustees, who also volunteer to run the operational side of the Club. We provide a 2-year programme of free Sunday training and match play to children from at least 15 local state schools in South West London. At the end of the programme, we support children to continue their hockey journeys in mainstream clubs, with financial assistance as necessary.
