Objectives

The relief of Essex children with physical and/or mental disabilities or other special needs particularly by the provision of information, encouragement and support to their parents. SNAP helps the whole family, though, by also providing services/activities for the children and their siblings.

We inform, encourage and support parents, so they grow in strength and knowledge and become better equipped to give the best possible help to their children.

Activities

SNAP provides a wide range of activities for the parents, the children and their siblings; some activities are for the parent or child or sibling alone, others where they participate together in a family grouping; the emphasis is very much on supporting the whole family via the different activities.

For parents, activities/services include counselling sessions (both solo and with their children), benefits advice, parent training, specialist talks, yoga, a helpline, and a comprehensive information directory on our website. They also receive regular information updates via newsletters and e-mail.

For children, activities/services include a range of therapeutic and developmental activities such as music, yoga, drama, pre-school sessions, an IT Suite with specialist equipment, a multi-sensory room, plus after school clubs and activities during school holidays.

For siblings, activities/services include family counselling, supportive listening sessions, family outings and their annual holiday session – “SIBS4FUN”.
