Objectives

The Council runs a network of 12 public libraries located across the borough and a
Home Library Service that delivers to people who are not able to access libraries
Independently due to age, long term illness, or disability. Library membership is free and is open to everyone who lives, works or studies in the borough.

All Libraries have collections of books and other materials for loan and reference.

All Libraries provide free public access to the internet and ICT via computers that can
be booked on an hourly basis. Libraries also provide free wi fi access. Libraries
provide space for study and the larger libraries have meetings space for hire. All
libraries organise regular programmes of events for all age groups including reading
groups, story times for under 5’s and free ICT taster sessions to promote confident use
of online resources.

Activities

Southwark Libraries recognises that volunteers can play a valuable role in assisting the public in their use of local libraries. They may have skills and experience that add value to the ways in which libraries help and support people in accessing information, learning opportunities and participating in social events such as reading groups.
