The South West Lakes Trust is a charity dedicated to Conservation, Education and Recreation. Since 2000 the Trust has been managing the land around many of the South West's lakes and reservoirs.
Our work includes practical conservation tasks, for the benefit of wildlife. Preservation of archaeological sites for heritage. Provision of information including leading guided walks for education, natural history and general interest. Working with groups from a variety of backgrounds, opening up new areas for activities and helping to spread awareness of the unique landscapes around us.
We have a relatively small yet widespread team, which are supported by volunteers. These volunteers cover all of our sites though the South West and contribute in a huge number of different ways. We know we wouldn't be able to do what we do without the help of volunteers and we are hugely appreciative of all their efforts. Our practical work is seasonal, and links to our 5 year plan and our Biodiversity Action Plan so dependent on the season, the activities change. Our education work takes many forms and continues throughout the year, as does our recreational work. We work on footpath clearance and creation, fly-fishing areas, birdwatching hides, and in some areas camping and water sports too.
