South Shields Sea Cadets are a Youth Organisation that cater for 9 – 17 year old's.
The Sea Cadets offers an abundance of activities and adventures for young people from: Offshore Voyages on-board their ships, Overseas International Exchanges to various countries as far as Australia, and fun packed and educational trips to our various locations throughout the UK where they can gain skills and qualifications they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
As part of this we also offer the opportunity for cadets to gain qualifications such as BTEC and Duke of Edinburgh Award, we also teach skills such as Catering, Seamanship, Meteorology and much more!
The impact of this on cadets are great for young people, it gives them confidence, life skills and a sense of adventure and discipline which carry on with them past 18 when they are young adults.
As a unit, we try to make the most out of the opportunities that our organisation offers and we encourage and promote our cadets to do the best and experience the most that they can in their time as a Sea Cadet.
Experiencing offshore trips onboard our fleet vessels, taking part in look at life courses related to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, as well as gaining waterborne and onshore qualifications all year round to add to their CV and their cadet experience.
As well as this, Cadets are encouraged to take part in community activities such as Remembrance day, cleaning and litter picking local beaches, churches and community, bag packs in aid of the Royal British Legion, local community street parades and speaking to elderly community members in care homes.
During Covid-19 our cadets participated in a local 'tidy up' at a church where they spent their morning litter picking and making sure that the surrounding neighbourhood was clean and tidy.
As a uniformed disciplined organisation, we operate with a set training programme in an environment where Cadets are encouraged to make the most of their time, develop and grow as young people.
