Helston Museum preserves, protects and promotes the history and culture of Helston and The Lizard. The extensive collections are a powerful education and learning resource for all the community, regardless of age, ability or background.
The museum aims to inspire people to take a fresh look at their surroundings and to foster an interest in and understanding of local heritage, to contribute to the regeneration of the local area by attracting visitors to the town, and to be fully accountable to the people of Helston and the Lizard Peninsula.
The museum tries to cater for all sections of its audience. During the winter months, we provide a series of ‘Lunchtime Lectures’ on local interest subjects, aimed at adults who may be working or retired. Creative workshops for adults are held on weekdays and at weekends, again to cater for those in work.
Children’s activities, quizzes and trails are available all year round, and specific workshops are held in school holidays.
School workshops are available during term times, and include role play and interactive activities.
Pre-schoolers are catered for with a regular ‘Baby Paint’ session, run fortnightly, and there is a children’s play area within the museum suitable for toddlers up to the age of about eight years.
Handling boxes/reminiscence boxes can be hired by schools or other groups, and we provide a reminiscence outreach service to local memory cafes and care homes.
