Our Beneficiaries
Sound Waves Foundation’s (SWF) supports deaf children and our vision is simple - we want deaf children to flourish. SWF is a charity founded by two mothers of deaf children, wanting to dispel the myths of what deaf people can or can't do. Our aim is to progress equality through innovation, creativity and technology.
Our Work
We are working to reframe deafness and re-align it with a positive deaf image. We feel there is a lack of creativity and positivity when discussing disability and so we use animation, illustration, film and photography to present ideas and tips that are easy to understand, look good and are fun to do!
Our Impact
We want to give people the tools and know-how to communicate through multi channels. By presenting ideas and tips, we are revolutionising how society can be more inclusive and activities more accessible to benefit everyone.
We want to make transformative change through our projects:
Action for Captions
SWF’s grassroots initiative aims to make live captioning software available in every classroom in the UK to help deaf students, hearing children with other additional needs and pupils who have English as a Second Language access education. This pioneering project uses technology to make spoken language visible in primary and secondary schools.
BSL Surf Signs
Our project brings 10 simple British Sign Language signs to life saving surf clubs in Sussex, to make the water sessions fully accessible and offering an additional layer of safety for all.
BSL after school clubs
Our British Sign language after school clubs teach a young generation a new way of communicating and a different perspective on the world which helps break down barriers and stereotypes.
We have many more exciting projects in the making!
