The Society of Bookbinders is a UK-based charity dedicated to the provision of education for all in the craft of traditional and contemporary bookbinding and related skills. Supporting our printed heritage in the areas of history, conservation and restoration and the growing intrigue and personal benefits in the traditional hands-on skills needed to make handbound books.
Members meet locally throughout the UK at regular meetings and public presentation of hands-on workshops, talks and demonstrations on various bookbinding or binding-related subjects and techniques plus social events, visits and exhibitions, and representation of SoB at local book and craft fairs. An important aim of the Society is to encourage binders to improve their skills and to disseminate their expertise to fellow binders or would-be binders. To further this aim the Society annually runs a national event, issues a prestigious journal, an educational programme and a competition.
