Objectives

Our aim is to provide help and resources for individuals suffering from social anxiety and social phobia, alongside providing general educational information on this common yet often under-publicised mental health problem.

Social anxiety involves an excessive fear of social or performance situations. Sufferers fear being embarrassed or negatively evaluated by others. Anticipatory anxiety and situational avoidance are common, and individuals may endure social situations with a high level of discomfort. The scope of the anxiety may be focused on specific types of social situations or generalised to almost any social encounter.

The Social Anxiety Alliance seeks to promote a better understanding of social anxiety, where appropriate treatment options are open and accessible, where support and information is easily available and where nobody feels ashamed to say they have social anxiety or to ask for help.
