SLiDE removes barriers to participation in the arts faced by disabled people, addresses the lack of employment opportunities for learning disabled people, challenge inequalities and develops disabled people’s skills, confidence and creativity. Our work is important and relevant, it creates high quality dance provision to disabled people, audiences and the wider arts sector across Croydon.
We work with people aged 5-95 through the following programmes:
Our work is built on ten years of collaboration and partnership with local residents, education settings and arts organisations. Annually we reach approx 260 people directly through our dance sessions, projects and performances, and reach a further 820 people approximately as audience, family members and participants at SLiDE social events. Our strong track record includes a residency at St.Christopher’s Hospice, performances at Turner Contemporary in Margate, and a community commission with London Contemporary Dance School (The Place). We have partnerships with Parkinson’s UK, National Autistic Society, Club Soda and Turf Projects, with support from funders such as National Lottery Community Fund and Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
