Activities

SSIA has a strong track record of providing community based sessions and support for all adults in Skipton and South Craven, including nature-based activities, Yoga and Mindfulness, Walk and Talk, coffee and chats and more.

All activities are inclusive and enhance connections with the self, community & the natural environment. Offering these activities is instrumental in supporting good health and well-being for local people.

We began by offering a shopping and prescription collection service to those who were isolating during the pandemic. We still offer this service to those in our community who need it. However, we have shifted our focus to supporting people to get out and about again, helping them regain confidence and strength and becoming more connected where they live.

We also offer other community projects, such as our Christmas Elves Scheme, which provided Christmas gifts for over 120 children annually. This project brings together peope in our community - parents who are struggling to make ends meet, facing higher energy and food costs can ask for a specific gift for their child or children. Those who want to give something back can buy a present off the list or donate other gifts or money, and we have a group of volunteers who sort and wrap the presents, ready for delivery by Skipton Fire Service.

SSIA are community-focused and person centred charity, which builds skills and confidence within communities. Since our inception we have developed excellent working arrangements with local GP social prescribing teams, Carers’ Resource, Avalon, Living Well, NYCC Adult Social Care, SELFA, Skipton Fire Service, Age UK, Wharfedale, Airedale and Craven Alliance of GPs, Dementia Forward and North Yorkshire Council.

Through its connecting and collaborative approaches SSIA brings together local organisations from all sectors statutory, together with smaller community groups & local volunteers, thus enabling communities to access support and solutions for improved health and wellbeing.
