Objectives

Skills & Training Network is a not-for-profit grassroots organisation set up to transform people’s lives through empowerment, education, employment, and enterprise. We are a community based organisation, set up in 2011 to support hard-to-reach disadvantaged Black, Asian, Other Minority Ethnic and Refugees (BAMER) with complex needs, predominantly adults and young people from Turkish, Somali, Bangladesh, Asian, Arab and North African communities to take first steps to overcome their barriers and fulfil their potential.

Our Objectives

To transform people’s lives through empowerment, education, employment and enterprise and create more accessible training programmes.

To be a leading training & enterprise organisation delivering quality programmes and services to fit local needs across London. All whilst maintaining the highest levels of professionalism. We seek to understand the individual needs of our clients, and can always be relied upon to ‘go the extra mile’ whenever circumstances dictate.

Services

We provide basic skills and vocational training alongside support services to help individuals overcome the barriers to progression faced particularly by those from BAMER communities.

  • We provide ESOL classes for individuals who have limited English skills. We have had beneficiaries who were refugees new to the country to Women with little to no education. Through these classes they have been able to meet people facing similar issues, connect with people front their culture or religion, building relationships whilst developing skills that will help them to settle into the UK
  • Digital Skills classes to help beneficiaries who may face digital exclusion or those that have access but have never had the help to develop their skills
  • Vocational training pathways for those interested in a certain career, but who may be lacking the experience or training to reach their goals. We offer introductory courses with no entry requirements for groups like economically inactive Women, who have spent most of their lives raising their families, but are at a point where their children are older and are now able to work towards a career for themselves
  • Careers advice sessions focusing on career guidance, skills development and confidence building. Our qualified advisors help to identify the needs and goals to develop personalised action plans
  • Support for those facing Domestic Abuse. Our together against violence service aims to offer general advice and advocacy, providing emotional and practical support to women experiencing various types of Domestic Violence and threats of Honour Based Violence. Women will be assisted to access safe-housing, police protection and legal advice on non-molestation orders or injunctions
  • Advocacy and Legal Advice Services. We have witnessed an increase in the number of people who face different forms of discrimination and injustice such as domestic violence. With some people finding that they are not entitled to public recourse because of their legal status. These vulnerable groups desperately need the provision of legal advice aid and assistance. We aim to tackle unmet legal needs and we believe that everyone should access justice when other routes to justice are being closed off. We work with a group of professional solicitors who specialise in immigration, housing, and others to help our beneficiaries who face problems with housing, immigration, domestic violence, welfare rights, and others. Through this partnership we provide specialist and independent legal advice, advocacy, mediation, and representation services to our local community to protect and ensure the positive health and well-being of all our service users
