Sirona Therapeutic Horsemanship in South Devon, UK provides equine-based educational and therapeutic activities to disadvantaged young people and adults with the aim of promoting increased resilience and social, emotional and physical well-being.
Sirona Therapeutic Horsemanship takes a person and horse centred holistic approach to working with people and horses and provides a non-judgemental, experiential and positive learning environment that enables people to:
• Explore and learn more about themselves through engaging in activities and relationships with horses based around learning about horse behaviour and management, employing a ‘positive horsemanship’ approach.
• Develop an interest in the natural environment and engage in physical exercise in order to experience mental and physical health benefits, whilst having fun.
Therapeutic Horsemanship
This form of intervention provides the opportunity for people to gain new skills, increased confidence and other benefits through participating in equine based activities centred on a positive horsemanship approach, in an outdoor, rural environment
Equine-Assisted/Facilitated Therapy (EA/FT)
Sirona has qualified therapists who facilitate these sessions which are particularly beneficial for young people for whom conventional therapy is experienced as too intense or threatening
Equine-Assisted/Facilitated Learning (EA/FL)
These are horse based-educational sessions for young people who find the formal classroom environment challenging. Sirona also offers C & G Level 1 in Horse Care Course in partnership with Bicton College and Level 2 Horse Care as an apprenticeship.
Nature-Based Activities (NBA)
An additional intervention to our equine-based sessions, for young people to benefit from time spent in nature and learn about our natural environment.
Equine-Based Mindfulness (EBM)
One of our range of equine-assisted activities where young people can be introduced to mindfulness breathing techniques through the horses – so a less intense way of experiencing mindfulness than in a traditional therapy session.
Equi-Art
Equine inspired creative activities where young people can increase advance personal and social development, develop their creativity and thinking skills and the enrich their communication and expressive skills.
