Signpost for Carers is an independent local charity that provides information and support to unpaid carers, including young carers from the age of 6, enabling them to meet their own needs as individuals and look after their own health and wellbeing. Carers face many challenges, emotionally, practically and financially. Signpost works with carers to address their concerns, find services and activities that are supportive of their caring role, and give on-going support throughout their caring journey. Young carers take part in social activities and outings throughout the year. Reducing the sense of isolation and the likelihood of carer breakdown for all is an important part of Signpost's work.
The governance and strategic support of the organisation is provided by the trustees, which is absolutely invaluable. The trustees are vital to the operation of the charity and their contribution is very much appreciated.
Signpost has a number of for adults and young carers. Adults are enabled to find services which support their caring role including; help around carers assessments, contact with appropriate services, support around the completion of disability benefit claims, dementia awareness courses, emotional and practical support.
The young carers service have regular social groups, outings and residentials for young carers, as well as workers in schools who offer one to one support. They provide young carer awareness training for school staff.
