Objectives

Shropshire Epilepsy Support is a small, not for profit charity, based in Shrewsbury but serving across the whole of Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.

We work with people of all ages, within the community, in order to support, raise awareness and provide vital epilepsy services so that we can create better lives for those affected by this common neurological condition.

Despite 1 in 100 people having epilepsy (over 600,000 people in the UK) we are the only epilepsy charity, which provides free services in the county.

Activities

  • Run free monthly support meetings for families, which acts as a short respite break for both children and their parents. They can meet new friends, enjoy many fun activities whilst feeling safe and secure, away from any worries other discriminations.
  • Provide an 'Epilepsy Awareness Training Programme'. These are vital for anyone looking to develop their understanding of epilepsy for professional or personal reasons. We go in to support organisations such as businesses, school, health care professionals and services.

Our charity is passionate about expanding or developing new projects, in order to create better care for people. We have recently started working with epilepsy specialists in local hospitals, in order to improve the care that they receive, at diagnosis.

Sadly, epilepsy is a serious condition which can be fatal. Our charity is trying to reduce numbers of lives lost to SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy) by expanding our project which provides free anti-suffocation pillows to those with epilepsy.
